Can’t I drive to the airstrip, drive around the strip for a bit, and then fly the Lightning back to my hanger while Wilkins takes the car back?

Drive. That plane crashed in 2009.

Sounds like a good plan. Or plane. Whichever.

When I was a kid I thought the English Electric Lightning was ugly, then as I got older I appreciated it more for what a great aircraft it was. Two engines stacked on top of each other, some wings and then mount a couple of seats on top, genius and worked.
Also my dad used to fly these. He was a really crap dad but I’d like to think he was a better pilot and safety and survival instructor in the R.A.F. And BAE.

How did you happen to know that?

Googled the tail# ;)

Choose either, you have to deal with Lucas electrics, and thus might not make it to your destination.

Yeah, neither one was particularly well known for reliability.

Wouldn’t have occurred to me to do that. Interesting wing on that airplane...
